In the Weekly Update, John (the manager of MAXX Adult Emporium), will try to educate and entertain as well as inform you of the changes we’ve made to the website and announcements related to our stores. This is where you can easily learn about new toys we’ve added, new articles, stories, and blogs that have been written, things happening in the brick & mortar stores, and anything else I think you’ll be interested in knowing about. I’ll strive to post a Weekly Update every Friday, so come back regularly to see what’s new!
On this day back in 1835, something happened that had never happened before and will likely never happen again. The United States National Debt was paid off. We owed $0! Can you comprehend the magnitude of that? Given that my entire adult life has been lived in an age where 'deficit spending' is touted as a good thing and the media continually encourages the public to live beyond their means, is it any wonder that almost nobody ever tries to live debt free anymore? Who bothers to call their congressman telling him or her to stop spending money on their behalf? Oh sure, they'll say they want the government to spend less, but just not on the things They Want, their police, their roads, their schools. Those things are always underfunded and deserve more money. And so the national debt climbs ever higher and higher. Our kids and grand-kids will be cursing us one day... at the rate we're going, maybe one day soon.
Why is it so difficult to think about denying one's immediate wants and desires? How come so few people want less for themselves so that everyone else can have more? When did greed and jealousy become the norm? Look at the running battle over gay marraige. How do people justify the argument that someone else's happiness would interfere with their own happiness? I'm happy to note that there are some folks out there who lean in the complete opposite direction. They put aside jealousy and possessiveness in a way that most of society can barely picture. They are able to open their hearts to multiple people and be in a committed relationship with more than one person at a time. Check out Love's New Frontier, an article that was in the Boston Globe Sunday Magazine just this past week. What was once unthinkable is now gaining public notice and acceptance. Now if we could just make progress on that national debt.
It's been a couple of weeks since I mentioned our Review Our Toys & Win! contest where one person will get a coupon for 30% off just for reviewing our products. And that's likely why it's been that long since we've had any new entries. If you have any favorite toys I'd suggest taking advantage of this and taking one minute to write a short review. You've got a great chance of winning and saving a bundle of money when Valentines Day comes around.
January is a great time to sit down with your sweetheart and figure out your finances. Get a jump on your taxes, plan your budget for the next year, and check your investments (if you've got any left). Make sure you set aside enough funds to cover the essentials, including essential relaxation. If you make a good plan and follow through on it, you'll be less stressed not only when you're working, but also when you're playing. Spending money for a vacation or a new toy is so much more fun when you know it's in the budget. Of course many people find the process of looking at their finances stressful all by itself, so when you're done, reward yourself and your sweetie with an exciting evening playing together in bed. It is as much (or more) fun as anything else I can think of, and won't cost you a dime.
